Pick a time, we come to your door, and you agree to the rate before we start. Remote help works too when that's faster.

What we help with

If it plugs in and nobody can figure it out, we can help.

Ask anything you like. We'll explain what we're doing while we do it.

Wi-Fi that reaches the whole house

Dead spots, a router in the wrong place, a network nobody can get onto. We fix the coverage first, before anybody tells you to buy faster internet.

Computers that have gotten slow or strange

The machine that takes four minutes to start, the file that vanished, the update that won't finish. We sort those out and set up a backup while we're there.

Phones and tablets, set up your way

Photos, contacts, passwords and the settings nobody can find. We'll get it set up the way you want to use it.

TVs, streaming and “where did my channel go”

New TV set up, streaming apps sorted out, remotes that work, and one clear explanation of which button does what.

Learning it at your own pace

Some visits are all teaching, and that suits us fine. We go through it with you until it makes sense and you can do it on your own.

Doorbells, cameras and smart home gear

Cameras you can pull up when you need them, a doorbell that rings the right phone, a thermostat that keeps its schedule. We set it up and explain it once.

Printers that won't print

Wireless printers are badly designed, and it isn't your fault. We'll get it printing and scanning and leave it that way.

Scams, pop-ups and “is this email real?”

Pop-ups, fake warnings, emails that want you to click. We'll clear it out and show you what to look for so the next one doesn't get you.

Local to Oklahoma City

What tech help looks like around here.

In Mesta Park, Heritage Hills, Crown Heights and Gatewood the houses are ninety years old with plaster and lath walls, and Wi-Fi doesn't travel through them. The fix is putting signal on the far side of the wall. In the apartments and lofts downtown and along Automobile Alley the signal is fine and there are forty of them on the same channel, in a building where you can't drill a hole. We bring both answers.

We love making it easy

Patient, unhurried help, especially for the 55+ crowd.

Plenty of people in the city have lived in the same house since the seventies and watched everything move onto a screen: the bank branch closed, the doctor wants a portal, the electric company wants an app. We go at your pace, explain it in plain words, and write it down if you want.

Questions

What people in Oklahoma City ask us.

Do you make house calls in Oklahoma City?

Yes. A Local Nerd in the metro comes to your door, and you see the rate for your address before you book. Remote help works too, for computer, phone, email and account problems, in a 30-minute session.

I rent an apartment and can't drill holes. Can you still fix my Wi-Fi?

Usually, yes. In a dense building most of the trouble is channel congestion and router placement, and both are fixable without touching a wall. If you need more hardware, we'll tell you before you buy anything.

Do you work with whatever internet company I already have?

Yes. We don't sell internet and have no deal with any provider, so we work with the equipment and plan you already have. If your plan is the problem, we'll say so.

How much does tech help cost in Oklahoma City?

Remote help is $39 for a 30-minute session. In-person visits are $110 an hour within 25 miles of downtown Oklahoma City and $130 in the 25 to 50 mile band, and the higher rate is how we pay for the drive. Farther-out addresses are served remotely today, or by a drive from a neighboring Local Nerd. Type your ZIP when you book and you'll see the answer for your address. A $39 deposit books an in-person visit and the rest is charged after your Local Nerd finishes and you sign off on the work. Nerd on Call membership is $14.99 a month and includes two remote sessions and an in-person visit a year, plus 20% off anything extra. You always agree to the rate before we start.

Do you help older adults in Oklahoma City with technology?

Yes. One-on-one help for older adults is work we like. We go at your pace, and we'll write the steps down for you to keep.

Do you fix broken devices, or just set things up?

We do. Most of what people call broken is a setting, an update, an account or a connection, and we fix those. Screens, batteries, parts and data recovery from a failed drive are somebody else's job, and we'll tell you that up front.
