Local Nerd jobs in Oklahoma City & the Metro

Become a Local Nerd in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City is the biggest metro in the state. Bethany, Yukon, Mustang, Choctaw, Harrah, Spencer, El Reno and the whole core of the metro book off this market. We're hiring here continuously, and the metro is where the drives are shortest.

Where Oklahoma City stands today.

In-person visits are open across this whole market, in every travel band that has towns in it. We're still hiring here: an open market has evenings, weekends and days nobody is covering.

Remote help by phone and screen-share already works at every address in this market, and it's part of the job wherever you live. A Local Nerd living here adds the half that can't be done over the phone. See what customers are told on the Oklahoma City page.

The ground you'd cover.

16 towns are measured from downtown Oklahoma City: 13 within 25 miles, 3 in the 25 to 50 mile band. They sit in Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Logan, Grady and Pottawatomie counties. Every market reaches 75 miles from its downtown in three travel bands, and the farther bands pay a higher hourly rate because the drive is longer. You choose which bands you take, and you can change it later.

What the work looks like here.

Metro work is dense, which changes the shape of the day: short drives, several visits stacked in an afternoon, and a customer base that runs from first-apartment renters to retirees in the older neighborhoods. The next visit is usually a short drive away, and remote sessions fit between visits from your own desk.

You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front. Tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.

You set your own availability. Open the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full time, that part is your call.

Bookings come to you. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit.

Nobody negotiates money at the door. Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the card. The customer signs off on your phone at the end and the rest charges itself.

You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

You have a team behind you. You get the Nerd HQ app, a direct line to HQ, a team that meets over video, and other Local Nerds to ask when something's strange.

Questions people in Oklahoma City ask.

You already have people in OKC. Is it saturated?

No. It's the biggest metro in the state, and the booking goes to whoever has the time open, so evenings and weekends count for a lot.

Which metro market should I apply to?

Apply to the market whose downtown is closest to your house and tell us your ZIP. The metro is split into three markets, north, south and central, and they overlap heavily. You can sit on more than one queue.

One form, then a real conversation.

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

1

Apply online. About five minutes. No resume needed.

2

We read it. A real person reads every application, and if it looks like a fit, we reach out.

3

Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.

4

Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. You enter your details with the screening provider, never with us.

5

Onboarding, and you're live. Your Nerd HQ account, your hours and a short orientation, then your first booking.

Markets with nobody in them are listed first. If your town isn't the one on this page, it's almost certainly on one of these.

This page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume, in this market or any other.
