OkieNerd is friendly tech help for folks who don't speak computer, and we're expanding across Oklahoma and North Texas. Nineteen markets are open. Six have no Local Nerd living in them: their towns book on a visit driven in from the next market over, or get remote help, until somebody local joins. Set your own availability, keep the majority of every booking, and be the first person your town can call.
OkieNerd is running across Oklahoma, from Lawton to Tulsa to the Panhandle. Nerd on Call, our membership, just launched, and the iPhone and Android apps are in both stores.
House calls running in markets from Lawton to Tulsa.
Our new membership puts a Local Nerd on standby for members.
Our iPhone and Android apps are live on the App Store and Google Play, serving customers statewide.
You're helping regular folks with the phones, laptops and TVs they use every day, patiently and in plain English.
Hop on a quick call and walk someone through their phone, laptop, email, Wi-Fi, or smart-TV trouble.
Show up, sit down next to someone, and fix it in person.
Cover the nearby towns that don't have their own Local Nerd yet, and grow your own territory.
Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the customer's card, so the money is settled through the app and never negotiated at the door. When you finish, you hand them your phone: they confirm the work is done, add a tip if they want to, and the rest charges itself. You never ask anyone for money, and you never carry cash.
You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front, it's paid on every completed job, and tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.
You set your own availability. Open up the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full-time, that part is your call.
Bookings come to you automatically. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit. If you're free, you get the booking.
Paid per completed booking. No clock to punch, no salary, no minimums.
You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.
We bring the customers. OkieNerd handles the brand, the booking, and the payments, so you focus on the fix instead of finding work.
You run your own schedule, and the other Local Nerds have your back when a job gets strange.
Your visits, hours and pay live in the Nerd HQ app for iPhone and Android, and HQ is one phone call away when you need a hand.
We get the team together regularly over Google Meet to share wins, swap fixes, and keep everyone pointed in the same direction.
Now and then we meet up in person, so you know the folks you're swapping fixes with.
For Local Nerds who want to go above and beyond, there's the Charter Nerd Program, offered by invitation. Charter Nerds keep OkieNerd cards on the counters of the local businesses their town trusts, and they tell us where a free tech class or a sponsorship would land well, so we can set it up. They earn a lower commission as they hit milestones along the way. The more your town knows OkieNerd, the more of every booking you keep.
Every market on this map is hiring, Lawton included. Pick your town to see the ground a Local Nerd there covers: the city and everything within 75 miles of its downtown, in three travel bands. The list below says which markets need somebody most, and each one has its own page.
Don't see your town on the map? Apply for the city nearest you and tell us where you live. Markets overlap, and most of Oklahoma sits inside two or three at once, so you tell us which queues you want to take bookings in.
Every city here has its own page: the towns you would cover, what is open in that market today, what the drive looks like, and the questions people there ask. The markets with nobody in them are listed first, because a hire there opens in-person help to a whole area that has none.
These markets are mapped and priced, and in-person visits aren't open in them. Some of their towns sit inside a neighboring Local Nerd's drive; the rest get remote help and nothing else. The first hire in each one opens it.
Enid is open for house calls, and nobody lives here to make them.
In-person visits are open in these markets, and today's drives stop short of some of their towns, which have no in-person option. A Local Nerd here who takes those drives turns them on.
Grand Lake is a good example of why one Local Nerd isn't enough.
Broken Bow is open, and the far edge of it is out of reach.
Muskogee is open for house calls, sixty-four towns deep, and there's no Local Nerd in it.
Woodward is the far northwest, and it's open on the longest drive we have: a Local Nerd comes out from Weatherford, seventy-some miles each way, and that drive reaches Woodward itself, Mooreland, Sharon, Vici, Seiling and Waynoka.
McAlester is open for house calls, and nobody on the roster lives here now.
Lawton is where OkieNerd started and it's still the market we know best.
Ponca City got its first Local Nerd in October 2026, and the whole market opened with it: sixty-four towns measured from downtown Ponca City, from Blackwell, Tonkawa and Newkirk up US-77 through Arkansas City, Winfield and Wellington to Wichita, Derby and Andover.
Ardmore is open for house calls, and nobody lives here to make them.
Stillwater is open for house calls, and nobody lives here to make them.
Every travel band in these markets is being driven. They still have evenings, weekends and days nobody is covering.
Want to help OkieNerd grow where you live? Leaving cards on the counter at your favorite donut shop, telling us which library or senior center would welcome a free tech class, pointing us to a local team worth sponsoring, it's all welcome and never required. We set up and run the classes and sponsorships ourselves. It helps your own market, and we reimburse pre-approved out-of-pocket costs. Your time is always your own.
Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears. Here's how it goes.
Apply online. About five minutes. We ask what you can support and how you work. The answers are below.
We read it. One of us reads every application, and if it looks like a fit, we'll reach out to set up an interview.
Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.
Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. Our customers invite us into their homes, so everyone is screened. You enter your details with our screening provider, never with us.
Onboarding, and you're live. We set you up in Nerd HQ, the app that runs your visits, hours and pay, plus a short orientation, and you're ready for your first booking. Want to rep the brand? Order OkieNerd gear at wholesale, shipped to you.
It takes about five minutes. We read every one.
Start your applicationThis page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Participation in optional brand or community activities is voluntary, and only pre-approved out-of-pocket costs are reimbursed. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume.
