Local Nerd jobs in Lawton & Southwest Oklahoma

Lawton needs another Local Nerd.

Lawton is where OkieNerd started and it's still the market we know best. In-person visits run all three bands today, from Lawton and Fort Sill through Cache, Elgin, Walters, Anadarko and Waurika and down past the Red River to Henrietta and Archer City. We're hiring here too, Lawton included.

  • 4 towns here have no in-person option
  • Independent contractor, 1099
  • You set your own availability
  • Typically $47 to $87 an hour

Where Lawton stands today.

In-person visits are open in this market, and 4 of its 43 towns, Bluegrove, Scotland and Windthorst in Texas among them, are still out of reach. They have no in-person option today and are served remotely, by phone and screen-share. A Local Nerd here who takes those drives turns them on.

Remote help by phone and screen-share already works at every address in this market, and it's part of the job wherever you live. A Local Nerd living here adds the half that can't be done over the phone. See what customers are told on the Lawton page.

The ground you'd cover.

43 towns are measured from downtown Lawton: 19 within 25 miles, 17 in the 25 to 50 mile band, 7 in the 50 to 75 mile band. They sit in Comanche, Caddo, Cotton, Stephens and Grady counties, plus Wichita and Archer counties in Texas. Every market reaches 75 miles from its downtown in three travel bands, and the farther bands pay a higher hourly rate because the drive is longer. You choose which bands you take, and you can change it later.

What the work looks like here.

Lawton is an Army town, and Army towns have a rhythm: families arrive, set up a whole house in a week, and take it apart three years later. That means Wi-Fi and TV setups in the first week and backups and disconnections in the last, over and over. Out past town it's different. In Medicine Park, Cache, Elgin and the Wichita Mountains the trouble is usually distance from the router and thick walls.

You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front. Tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.

You set your own availability. Open the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full time, that part is your call.

Bookings come to you. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit.

Nobody negotiates money at the door. Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the card. The customer signs off on your phone at the end and the rest charges itself.

You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

You have a team behind you. You get the Nerd HQ app, a direct line to HQ, a team that meets over video, and other Local Nerds to ask when something's strange.

Questions people in Lawton ask.

Lawton is your home market. Are you still hiring here?

Yes. Every market on the map is hiring, Lawton included. A market with somebody in it still has time it can't cover: evenings, weekends and days off.

Do Local Nerds go on post at Fort Sill?

We help plenty of Fort Sill families and we work with whatever access process their housing office uses. Access gets arranged before the visit, so nobody's sorting it out at the gate. The customer tells us what's needed when they book.

One form, then a real conversation.

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

1

Apply online. About five minutes. No resume needed.

2

We read it. A real person reads every application, and if it looks like a fit, we reach out.

3

Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.

4

Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. You enter your details with the screening provider, never with us.

5

Onboarding, and you're live. Your Nerd HQ account, your hours and a short orientation, then your first booking.

Markets with nobody in them are listed first. If your town isn't the one on this page, it's almost certainly on one of these.

This page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume, in this market or any other.
