What we help with

If it plugs in and nobody can figure it out, we can help.

Ask anything you like. We'll explain what we're doing while we do it.

Wi-Fi that reaches the whole house

Dead spots, a router in the wrong place, a network nobody can get onto. We fix the coverage first, before anybody tells you to buy faster internet.

Computers that have gotten slow or strange

The machine that takes four minutes to start, the file that vanished, the update that won't finish. We sort those out and set up a backup while we're there.

TVs, streaming and “where did my channel go”

Streaming is confusing and there are too many apps. We'll get it working and leave you with something you can run without a manual.

Phones and tablets, set up your way

Setting up a new one, moving everything across, photos, passwords, and making the text bigger without breaking anything.

Learning it at your own pace

Some visits are all teaching, and that suits us fine. We go through it with you until it makes sense and you can do it on your own.

Doorbells, cameras and smart home gear

Cameras you can pull up when you need them, a doorbell that rings the right phone, a thermostat that keeps its schedule. We set it up and explain it once.

Printers that won't print

Wireless printers are badly designed, and it isn't your fault. We'll get it printing and scanning and leave it that way.

Scams, pop-ups and “is this email real?”

Pop-ups, fake warnings, emails that want you to click. We'll clear it out and show you what to look for so the next one doesn't get you.

Local to Wichita

What tech help looks like around here.

Wichita is an airplane town, and a lot of the housing went up in the same decades the plants did: 1950s ranches in Riverside and the east side, with plaster walls and a router stuck in whichever corner the cable company left it. Out in Andover, Maize and Derby the houses are newer and bigger, which is its own Wi-Fi problem. Either way the fix is usually placement and a second access point, not a faster plan.

We love making it easy

Patient, unhurried help, especially for the 55+ crowd.

Plenty of folks here spent a career at Boeing, Cessna, Beech or Spirit, being good at something hard, and are now being told by a phone that their password is wrong. We sit down, go at your pace, and write things down if you want them written down.

Questions

What people in Wichita ask us.

Do you come on base at McConnell?

Yes. Tell us when you book that the visit is on base and we'll work out the access details with you ahead of time, so nobody's stuck at the gate.

I'm in Winfield or El Dorado. Are you an option, or is that too far?

You're in range. Our service area is measured in miles from downtown Wichita: El Dorado, Wellington, Winfield and Harper are in the 25 to 50 mile band, and Attica, Moline and Howard in the outer one. Hutchinson, McPherson and Pratt have their own page, measured from downtown Hutchinson. Enter your ZIP when you book and you'll see the exact rate for your address.

How much does tech help cost in Wichita?

Remote help is $39 for a 30-minute session. In-person visits are $110 an hour within 25 miles of downtown Wichita, $130 in the 25 to 50 mile band and $145 from 50 to 75 miles, and the higher rate is how we pay for the drive. A $39 deposit books an in-person visit and the rest is charged after your Local Nerd finishes and you sign off on the work. Nerd on Call membership is $14.99 a month and includes two remote sessions and an in-person visit a year, plus 20% off anything extra. You always agree to the rate before we start.

Do you help older adults in Wichita with technology?

Yes. One-on-one help for older adults is work we like. We go at your pace, and we'll write the steps down for you to keep.

Do you fix broken devices, or just set things up?

We do. Most of what people call broken is a setting, an update, an account or a connection, and we fix those. Screens, batteries, parts and data recovery from a failed drive are somebody else's job, and we'll tell you that up front.
